Once I see a chiropractor, do I need to keep going?

Every patient is unique, so your care plan is tailored specifically to your condition and goals. Someone dealing with a long-standing or more complex issue may benefit from more frequent visits initially, while a recent or minor injury often requires less care.

Our goal is not only to help you feel better, but to help you stay better. Care is designed to address the underlying cause of your symptoms—not just temporary relief. A common, evidence-based approach may include visits twice per week for the first few weeks, followed by a re-evaluation to determine your progress and any next steps.

In some cases, we may recommend periodic “maintenance” or wellness visits. Many patients choose this option to help catch minor issues early, support proper movement, and reduce the likelihood of future flare-ups that could interfere with daily life or work.

Research has shown that chiropractic care can be both cost-effective and highly satisfying for patients, especially when used as part of a proactive approach to neuromusculoskeletal health and wellness.

Does it hurt?

Most patients find that chiropractic adjustments feel very good—and often relieving. In fact, adjustments can stimulate the release of natural “feel-good” chemicals in the body that help promote a sense of relaxation and well-being.

Occasionally, some patients may experience mild soreness after an adjustment, especially early in care or when the body is adapting to treatment. This is typically short-lived and similar to how you might feel after a light workout.

At times, additional therapies such as massage or rehabilitation exercises may also cause minor soreness, but this is generally mild and temporary.

What if I don't like the "cracking" sound or I'm nervous?

It’s completely normal to feel a little unsure about the “cracking” sound sometimes associated with chiropractic adjustments. This sound—called cavitation—is simply the release of gas from a joint and is not harmful.

That said, your comfort is always a priority. During your first visit, we’ll talk with you about any concerns or preferences you have. If you’re uncomfortable with traditional adjustments, there are several gentle, low-force techniques that can be just as effective—without producing that cracking sound.

Our goal is to make sure you feel relaxed, informed, and confident in your care every step of the way.

Can it damage my neck?

This is a common question, and it’s completely understandable to have concerns. Chiropractic care is widely recognized as a safe and effective approach when performed by a trained professional.

Chiropractors receive extensive education in anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics, along with specific training in how to safely and appropriately perform neck adjustments. Before graduating, they complete significant hands-on clinical experience to ensure patient safety and comfort.

Research has shown that everyday activities—such as turning your head to look over your shoulder—can place as much or more stress on the neck than a properly performed chiropractic adjustment.

As with any healthcare treatment, there are some risks, but serious complications are extremely rare. Your doctor will always evaluate your individual condition, discuss any concerns, and use techniques that are appropriate for you.

Our priority is to provide care that is safe, comfortable, and tailored to your needs.

How is massage incorporated?

At Hometown Health, we view chiropractic adjustments as just one part of a comprehensive approach to improving your quality of life. To help you reach your goals, we may also incorporate therapies such as massage, stretching, heat, corrective exercises, and class IV laser.

Massage therapy is often used to relax tight muscles, improve circulation, and support the effectiveness of your adjustments. By addressing muscle tension, we can help reduce discomfort and improve how your body moves and functions.

We utilize a variety of massage and rehabilitation techniques based on your specific condition and needs. All aspects of your care are carefully selected by the doctor and will be clearly explained and personalized during your initial visit.

How long is an appointment?

Your first visit typically lasts about an hour. This allows the doctor time to fully understand your condition, perform any necessary evaluations, and answer your questions so you feel informed and comfortable with your care plan.

Follow-up visits are usually shorter—about 15 to 30 minutes—depending on your specific treatment. Your doctor will review what to expect and tailor each visit to your individual needs.

Why chiropractic?

Chiropractors specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, including issues involving the spine, joints, and muscles. This focused training allows us to evaluate how your body is moving and functioning, and to identify the underlying causes of pain or discomfort.

We aim to be a trusted first step for many musculoskeletal concerns. Our approach is centered on accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, and helping you return to normal activity as quickly and safely as possible.

If your condition is outside the scope of chiropractic care, we will always guide you in the right direction and refer you to the appropriate provider. Your health and outcomes are our top priority.

How much does it cost?

The cost of care is tailored to your individual needs and may vary based on your insurance coverage and the specific treatments recommended. Our team will gladly review your benefits and provide clear expectations so you can make informed decisions about your care.

For those who prefer a simplified, self-pay option, we offer a time-of-service (TOS) rate with a 10% courtesy savings when payment is made at the time of your visit. With this option, most initial examinations range from $90-$135 total including your first treatment, and follow-up visits are typically $45.

If your care plan includes more advanced or supportive therapies, any additional costs will always be discussed with you in advance. We believe in complete transparency—so you’ll never encounter unexpected fees.

Many of our patients appreciate this straightforward approach, particularly those with high-deductible plans, as it allows them to receive high-quality care without unnecessary complexity.

Do I need a referral from my primary care doctor to see a chiropractor?

In most cases, no referral is needed to see a chiropractor. Doctors of Chiropractic are considered portal-of-entry providers, meaning you can schedule an appointment directly without first visiting a primary care physician.

During your visit, we will perform a thorough evaluation, diagnose your condition, and determine the most appropriate course of care. If additional testing or a referral to another specialist is needed, we will guide you every step of the way to ensure you receive the right care.

Some insurance plans do require a referral for coverage, so we recommend checking your specific benefits in advance. Our team is always happy to assist you in understanding your insurance and any requirements before your visit.
